DJ Hero Sold Better Than You Thought

by Joe Juba on Jul 07, 2010 at 12:50 PM

After poor initial sales figures, many assumed that DJ Hero was a disappointment in Activision's 2009 line-up. Gamers were quick to blame the abundance of Hero-branded products for the failure...but now it appears that no blame is necessary. Surprise! DJ Hero actually sold well!

According to the blog of Activision's Dan Amrich, DJ Hero has sold 1.2 million copies – and each one includes the turntable peripheral. The case is an interesting example of how games continue to sell long after the initial release window. Even after all of the review scores have hit and many gamers have moved on, incentives like price cuts can bring in new players and rack up long-term sales.

Amrich's reveal comes in the context of discussing Blur, which some people seem to writing off prematurely because it didn't make the latest NPD top 10.
