Counter-Strike: Source Updated With Achievements, Stats, Mac Support

by Phil Kollar on Jun 23, 2010 at 01:51 PM

As with many PC gamers, I spent a lot of time playing Counter-Strike back in the day -- like back when it was a Half-Life mod that wasn't officially owned or released by Valve. It's been a long time since I've loaded it up for a classic game of de_dust, but with today's massive update to Counter-Strike: Source, I may just need to break out the AWP again.

The huge list of improvements includes lifetime stat tracking of kills, deaths, accuracy with each weapon, and more. For the more obsessive among us, the game now has more than 140 Steam Achievements, ranging from awards for killing a certain number of opponents or winning a certain number of rounds to dominating with specific guns or mastering each map.

Scoreboards have also been updated, a Call of Duty-style deathcam will show you who killed you, and a new domination and revenge system (presumably somewhat similar to Team Fortress 2's) will urge you to single out specific enemies who are causing you trouble.

Just in case all that added goodness isn't enough, for the first time ever, Counter-Strike: Source is now playable by users running Steam on Mac as well. As an added bonus, the game is on sale for a mere $6.80 for the next two days. So...anyone up from some Counter-Strike tonight?
