Keyboard And Partial Song List In Rock Band 3 Confirmed

by Tim Turi on Jun 10, 2010 at 07:10 AM

Your wealth of instrument peripherals is about to expand. Today we have confirmation that Rock Band 3 is going to include a keyboard which will allow you to play song parts usually reserved for the ivories. Along with that whopper, there are a host of new songs to report and some new gameplay modes.

The Keyboard:

If you’ve seen any video from the eighties you’ve basically seen this peripheral. It looks like a mini keytar which will strap to players’ shoulders to allow for standing play. With it, players will rock out to the awesome piano and organ parts of classics like Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and The Doors’ “Break on Through.”

The Modes:

Pro Mode offers a realistic onscreen representation of the notes for a particular song. The 25-key keyboard will offer a whole new way to play the game, but the fully functioning, full-size Fender guitar will be an equally new experience. Pro mode will allow players to use these new instruments to continue enjoying the Rock Band experience, while simultaneously actually learning how to play the song and instrument in the process. Players will still be able to play the game the old way while not in this new mode. However, Pro Mode will finally offer a continued path to progression for those expert players.

Drop-in gameplay is now in the mix, allowing party-goers to come and go from a game without disrupting the ongoing setlist.

Attention is being paid to Story Mode as well, with a focus to deliver shorter tours for more digestable fun. No longer will you have to plow through the entire list of songs to feel like you accomplished something.

Additionally, all instruments, songs, and other gameplay features established in the Rock Band franchise will work with Rock Band 3. This will come as a great relief to long-time song collectors, many of whom have invested hundreds of dollars building up their Rock Band catalog. There's still no word on whether the new Pro Mode will interact with the old songs.

"Been Caught Stealing" - Jane's Addiction
