Rare Turns 25, Celebrates With New Logo

by Tim Turi on Jun 03, 2010 at 08:55 AM

Rare has been in the video game-making business from the NES days of Captain Skyhawk and R.C. Pro-am to the heyday of Goldeneye and Banjo Kazooie. They’ve been at it for a long time, and now they’re celebrating their 25th anniversary with a brand new logo.Excerpt]

Remember that shiny gold and blue logo that spins slowly right before the Bond theme kicks in during Goldeneye’s intro on N64? It’s being replaced. Rare is rebranding in an effort to simultaneously represent their classic legacy and modern ambitions. An overhaul of their website is soon to follow.

"Both Rare and the games industry have seen massive changes over the past 25 years, and right now it feels as if both we and the industry are continuing to evolve at an ever-increasing pace,” said Mark Betteridge, head of the Rare studio. “With this landmark anniversary coming up, and knowing that we have a really exciting future ahead, we felt now was the time to have a new image more in keeping with an innovative and creative entertainment company which aspires to be around for at least the next 25 years!"

If you've got a tasty beverage nearby, be sure to raise it in honor of Rare's quarter century achievement.
