Wayne Gretzky is going to appear on the cover of EA Sports' NHL Slapshot for the Wii. The game's new name reflects a different philosophy from the standard NHL 11 moniker used for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

The Great One will not only appear on the cover, but he'll also be playable in the game. NHL Slapshot features a special hockey stick peripheral that allows you to mimic shooting, checking, and passing while you're out on the ice.

This partnership with EA Sports is just one in a long line of titles that Gretzky has supported over the years. He used to be the perennial cover man for Sony's first-party hockey series until it folded, and before that Wayne had his name on numerous titles on a variety of systems.

Can you make Wayne's head bleed on the ice? Doubtful.
