Free-To-Play Clone Wars MMO Coming From Sony Online

by Adam Biessener on Jun 01, 2010 at 10:52 AM

This isn't the Star Wars MMO you're looking for. On the other hand, it's not intended to be. Sony Online Entertainment is developing and publishing Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures on PC for the younger set, according to a press release. The game is free to play, but monthly subscriptions and microtransactions will both be available to separate your kids from their allowances.

Clone Wars Adventures looks to be built on the FreeRealms model. The action takes place in minigames like Droid Programming and Speeder Bike Racing, as well as in the embedded card game. Much of the content revolves around customizing your avatar, either through earning rewards (new costumes, pets, etc.) in-game or purchasing them through the cash shop. Ultimately, you can deck out your player house with trophies and assorted goodies and invite your virtual friends to come over and ogle your electronic accomplishments.

Playing online dress-up and kicking the tires on a bunch of minigames may not sound like the next big thing to you, but this is targeted at younger gamers who haven't quite grown into God of War yet. Parents have a number of controls at their disposal, from setting playtime limits to restricting chat to limited, canned messages.

SOE has yet to announce a release date for Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures.
