What are you doing around midnight this Saturday? Hint: “Sleeping,” is the wrong answer. If you aren’t staying up to play Red Dead Redemption multiplayer, you may as well use your television for its original purpose and just watch something. In this case, it’s an odd collaboration between Rockstar Games and John Hillcoat, director of the films The Proposition and The Road.

This Saturday, May 29, at midnight Eastern and Pacific, FOX viewers can tune in and see a 30-minute short film directed by Hillcoat using in-game assets from Red Dead Redemption. The short appears to follow the plot of the game, with reformed outlaw John Marston trying to track down his former partner Bill Williamson.

It’s an interesting idea, and we’re curious to see how well this experiment works. It’s certainly a good way to get the word out on a game, and we have to applaud this kind of ambitious undertaking.
