Week In Review: 05/22

by Jeff Marchiafava on May 22, 2010 at 05:00 AM

This week we rolled out a ton of new Gears of War 3 coverage, posted reviews for some major AAA titles, and detailed our love of Red Dead Redemption. It's time for the Week In Review!

Here were this week's top ten Game Informer exclusives:

  1. Gears Of War 3: Delta Squad Introduction:
Do you want to know more about the beefy grunts of Gears of War 3? You're in luck, because we've got profiles for all of them! So far we've revealed Marcus Fenix, Anya Stroud, Augustus Cole, Jace Stratton, and Dominic Santiago. We'll be posting the last profile soon, so keep an eye on the Gears of War 3 hub page!
  2. Epic Games Studio Tour:
The Delta Squad profiles weren't the only Gears-related stories we did this week. We also went on a video tour of Epic Games, which it turns out would be a pretty cool place to work. Epic's Cliff Bleszinski served as our tour guide and all-around entertainer (he's quite the funny guy).
  3. In His Own Words: Cliff Bleszinski:
Holy Epic overload! Rounding out our hat trick of Gears-related features this week, we sat down with Cliff after our tour to pick his brain. Watch this video now to see how Cliff got into the industry, and what kind of games he'd like to make in the future.
  4. Game Informer Staff Page: Issue #206:
Our readers were so mad when we removed the staff page from the magazine, that we decided to bring it back in digital form. Some of our readers are still mad about it, and we don't know why – but we appreciate the enthusiasm. Read this month's interests and dislikes now, and then share your hatred for Dan Ryckert's taste in music in the comments section.
  5. Red Dead Reviewed:
The wait for Red Dead is finally over, and everyone in the office has been playing Rockstar's new open-world western. In case you're still on the fence about this one, check out our review.
  6. More Red Dead Ruminations:
What happens when a bunch of editors play the same video game? They write about it, of course. First up was Andy Reiner's account of his first night in Red Dead, which didn't go quite as he planned. Then I shared my own thoughts on how Rockstar finally made a game that makes me care about the protagonist. If you can't get enough of this game, check out the link for this week's Game Informer Show at the bottom of the page.
  7. Save Our Helicopters: A Plea To Developers:
Jeff Cork puts his script-writing skills to the test as he points out a hilarious cliché in action video games: Life sucks when you're a helicopter pilot in a video game.
  8. The Deskside: Episode 201:
Speaking of funny: Nick brings back his humorous web comic that stars various action figures hanging out on his desk. This week's episode stars a pair of Lego stormtroopers chatting it up.
  9. Technick: You And Your Subwoofer:
In an office full of nerds, Nick's knowledge of technical stuff reigns supreme. His super nerdiness is your gain, as he explains an easy technique for finding the optimal spot for your sub woofer.
  10. Super Mario Galaxy 2 Review:
Red Dead Redemption wasn't the only game that came out this week. The stellar follow-up to Super Mario Galaxy is also in stores now. Why ride around on a mangy old horse when you can mount a big green dinosaur? Wait, that came out wrong.

And now here are the top 32 news stories from the week:
