Killzone 2’s Soundtrack Wins First Ivor Novello Award

by Tim Turi on May 21, 2010 at 01:20 PM

Killzone 2’s Joris De Man has secured a prestigious award from the London-based BASCA for his work composing the game’s grandiose soundtrack.

The Ivor Novell Awards are  presented in London by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors. It’s been around since 1955, so when a new music medium such as video games enters the fray, it’s a big deal.

“This shows gaming music is coming of age,” said Video Games Live composer, Richard Jacques, who championed the category. “A good score has the same quality as a film soundtrack. But it’s very different because in games you are creating a musical dynamic that pre-empts the story and reacts to what the characters are doing.”
