Virgin Returning To Video Games

by Tim Turi on May 20, 2010 at 07:49 AM

Do you remember the awesome Aladdin game for Sega Genesis, the awesome PC game Cannon Fodder, or the surprisingly refreshing Cool Spot title? They were all published by Virgin Interactive, which has slipped from video game relevancy in recent years. According to recent reports, however, that’s about to change.

Virgin’s original founder, Richard Branson, is set to unveil the return of Virgin at E3 next month. Virgin Interactive was set up in 1984, and Branson was one of the early European champions of the burgeoning computer software scene. The company published some great original games, but they also ported a ton of awesome Capcom games for European release.

Virgin Interactive became Virgin Play in 2002, but since that change occurred the company has been limited to browser-based games. Likely this E3 announcement will reveal whether the company will be sticking to the Virgin Play moniker of if they’ll change their name to shed their reputation of dormancy. Virgin is planning on releasing multiplatform titles and promising big online games.
