Dragon Quest IX Hits U.S. This July

by Tim Turi on May 19, 2010 at 06:45 AM

Square Enix’s latest Dragon Quest game for the Nintendo DS has already sold over 4.2 million copies in Japan. Considering the title’s massive overseas success, it’s only natural that they’re releasing it outside of Japan on July 11 to keep spreading the Dragon Quest love.

The full name of the game is Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. It stars a city guardian tasked with retrieving wish-granting fruit from a sacred tree. Besides the traditional Dragon Quest gameplay like tons of side quests and an epic story, the game also incorporates custom hero creation, four-player local wireless co-op, and downloadable missions.

“Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is one of the  biggest games ever to hit Nintendo DS, with an incredible amount of  content for every kind of player to enjoy,” said Nintendo’s executive vp of sales and marketing, Cammie Dunaway.  “This new game has all of the elements of an instant classic:  customization options, a great story, and the ability to share a nearly limitless experience with friends.”

Judging by how much Square Enix has profited from Dragon Quest IX already, future U.S. sales must be seen as icing on the cake.
