3DS Circuitboard Revealed?

by Adam Biessener on May 17, 2010 at 08:48 AM

A single photo of what is likely a Nintendo 3DS development kit was posted alongside a submission to certify what seems to be the unit's wireless card with the Federal Communications Commission. The photo has since been removed from the filing, but not before alert tech blog WirelessGoodness reposted it for posterity.

Nintendo has yet to comment on the image, but Eurogamer's Digital Foundry broke it down and discovered a few interesting pieces of information. The unit's callsign, CTR, implies that it is a new piece of hardware entirely -- the DSi was referred to as TWL, and the DSi XL was UTL. More importantly, it looks like only the upper widescreen display will use 3D technology, while the lower screen will be used for standard 4:3 aspect ratio 2D images.

How much money do you want to put on a 3DS announcement coming at Nintendo's early morning E3 press briefing? Be sure to check back here at 9am Pacific time on June 15 to get all the news as it happens.
