Week In Review: 05/15

by Jeff Marchiafava on May 15, 2010 at 05:00 AM

This week we kicked off a month of Gears of War 3 coverage, took a tour of Blue Castle Games, and played with some of the dumbest peripherals known to man. It's time for the Week In Review!

Here were this week's top ten Game Informer exclusives:

  1. Fall Of Man: An Intro To The Gears Universe:
This week Meagan took a look at the long and complicated history of the Gears universe. If you found yourself scratching your head at the storyline of the first two games, this is your best chance to figure out what the heck a Jacinto is. You can find more Gears features all month long at our Gears of War 3 hub page.
  2. Dead Rising 2: Blue Castle Games Tour:
Ever wonder what it would be like to make a video game about zombies? Dead Rising 2's executive producer Rob Barret takes us on a tour of Blue Castle Games, pointing out film memorabilia, Halloween costumes, and a whole lot of zombies along the way.
  3. Hands-On With Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days:
Ben Reeves recently tried out the new arcade mode in Kane & Lynch 2, which tasks you and a squad of AI teammates with robbing a target and escaping with the money. Greedy players can also betray their teammates and steal their loot as well. Is Ben an honorable thief, or a crooked dirtbag? Read the preview to find out.
  4. Retrospective: Opening Remarks:
Current gen games are mind-blowingly awesome, but that doesn't mean we've forgotten about the classics. In this feature, Jeff Cork and I take a look back at the old RPGs of the Super Nintendo, and provide videos of the intros for each title. Take a walk down memory lane, and see if your favorite SNES RPG is here.
  5. The Most Useless Peripherals In Gaming History:
The title pretty much says it all: This week Dan Ryckert dug up the stupidest peripherals he could find, detailing their stupidity for your stupid enjoyment.
  6. A Live Journal Of UFC Undisputed 2010:
Ben started playing the new UFC Undisputed 2010 recently, and decided to keep a live journal of his experience. Follow the journey of his character, Ratman "Big Papi" Jones, as he takes...wait, what the hell kind of name is that? Anyway, Ben's preview has a lot of hands-on impressions that you won't find anywhere else.
  7. When Music Attacks:
This week Phil wrote up his impressions of Beat Hazard, a game that takes your music library and turns it into a Galaxy Wars-esque shoot-em-up. This game marries two of my favorite things: music and shooting things!
  8. Disconnected:
Due to some faulty Microsoft hardware, Kato has been missing out on some online gaming recently. But has he really been missing it? Kato discusses his hardware dilemma, while our helpful readers offer up a variety of possible solutions to the problem.
  9. Behold The Beauty: The Unfortunate Sequel:
GI graphic designer Jeff Akervik is back with a second batch of truly awful box art. His post is as hilarious as the games are bad, and one of them is actually called "I Want My Mommy," so you know this post is full of win.
  10. Sherlock Holmes Vs. Jack The Ripper Review:
It was a slow week, and I'm the one who writes WIR, so I'm including my review of Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper to this week's list. The game was weird, but will still appeal to old-school adventure fans, so if you miss the days of blindly trying to combine inventory items to solve nonsensical puzzles, check it out.
