Week In Review: 05/08
This week we revealed the cover for the June issue, ran a couple more Dead Rising 2 features, and teased gamers with previews for a variety of highly anticipated games. It's time for the Week In Review!
Here were this week's top ten Game Informer exclusives:
- June Cover Revealed:
This week we revealed the cover of this month's issue, and the image says it all. Literally – there's no writing anywhere on the front of the magazine, other than the Game Informer logo. It definitely looks awesome, but it doesn't mean this issue is lacking other great stories, like full features on Fallout New Vegas, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Little Big Planet 2. Truth be told, I'm more excited about the return of Sackboy than I am Marcus Fenix. Think I'm crazy? Wait until you hear what Media Molecule has in store for the sequel... - Tools Of Destruction: A Look At Dead Rising 2's Weapons:
Let's face it, when the zombie apocalypse begins, how many of us are really going to have access to an armory of automatic assault weapons? Those of us who are prepared, that's who. The rest of you sorry suckers will be forced to improvise. Luckily, Dead Rising 2 will teach players how to make a variety of deadly weapons out of common household items with its intricate weapon-building system. This preview offers a glimpse of how it works. Also, be sure to ask us any Dead Rising 2 questions you have, here. - The Surprises Of Fallout New Vegas:
Jeff Cork recently got some hands-on time with Fallout New Vegas, and knows all about what's different with Obsidian's approach to a current gen Fallout. Will it be what old-school Fallout fans are waiting for? Read the preview to find out. - Things You Should Know About Red Dead Redemption:
If you can't tell, me and some of the other GI staff really want to play this game. Bertz isn't helping matters, by continually writing previews for the game that tease a variety of cool features in the game. This preview also outlines some of the Hollywood influences Rockstar's spaghetti Western borrows from. - Gamer Gorilla Radio:
Normally I'd place the Game Informer Show link in the final paragraph, but this week's podcast was a little different. Seeing as how it was a slow week for video game news, Andy McNamara decided to hijack the regular show and hold impromptu conversations with various members of the staff. The result? Not total chaos. In fact, it was actually really entertaining... - Mortal Kombat's Best And Worst Fatalities:
This week Dan Ryckert put together a list of all the best, worst, and most confusing fatalities from the Mortal Kombat franchise, complete with videos of each move. I think he made a mistake though, because Bo Rai Cho's fart of doom was on the worst list – what's better than farting your opponent to death?! - Rage Preview:
Jeff Cork posted a new preview of Rage, and I'm having a hard time writing this description without a lame reference to Rage Against The Machine, the lyrics from Bullet With Butterfly Wings, or the refrain from that famous Dylan Thomas poem. Anyway, this game looks fun. - Snoopy Flying Ace Preview:
Annette Gonzalez's preview of Snoopy Flying Ace asks the question, "Will Ace prove to be the Citizen Kane of WWI flying beagle games?" It might be too early to tell, but one thing is for sure: This game is freaking adorable. Read the preview to find out more about this upcoming XBLA dogfighter – no pun intended. - Succeeding In Ow, My Balls:
For a few days this week the halls of the Game Informer offices were filled with the sounds of video game characters getting hit in the crotch. The game is appropriately titled Ow, My Balls, and it's exclusively available on the iPhone. After playing it all day, Dan wrote this brilliant strategy guide to help you succeed on your epic journey of testicular trauma. - Game Informer Online Wins Webby People's Voice Award:
We hounded our readers for weeks, and you came through for us. This week AOL announced the winners for this year's Webby Awards, and we won for best games-related site. We are now officially bigger than the Beatles...Rock Band. Another great big thanks to everyone who voted for us!
