Square Enix Discusses Final Fantasy V & VI On DS

by Joe Juba on Apr 28, 2010 at 10:17 AM

The Square Enix members twitter has been a fountain of news lately. First, the company used it to tease (and then confirm) Final Fantasy IX coming to PlayStation Network. Now Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto is using the account to discuss the possibility of porting Final Fantasy V and VI to DS.

While it isn't even close to announcement, Hashimoto reveals that the company has considered DS releases for both titles, but the projects haven't materialized due to "technical issues."

Presumably, technical issues wouldn't hold back the production of FF V and VI if the company were doing straight ports (like the GBA iterations), so it's safe to assume Hashimoto is referring to the full DS remake treatment like how the company handled Final Fantasy III and IV.
