Inside Madden NFL 11 With New Screens & Vids

by Matthew Kato on Apr 27, 2010 at 10:45 AM

Madden NFL 11 developer EA Tiburon has made some big changes to the football franchise we all know and love, and today we've got some new screens and developer diaries talking about some of the game's new features.

In our preview yesterday, we told you all about the game's new locomotion movement engine, play-calling system, kicking meter, and pre-snap options. Here's a quick look at how Madden NFL 11 is streamlining the process without limiting how you call plays.

These screenshots show how you can tailor your playbook to only give you pre-selected plays based on the particular down and distance situation. In these examples, the situation is third down with less than three yards to go on offense. On defense, it's plays that counter trips receiver formations. Notice the five-star rating above each play? This is how frequently the play will be called in the given situation. Up to 15 plays can be implemented per situation.

One of the surprising bits of feedback that EA Tiburon got about Madden NFL 10 was regarding the kicking system. This year, the right analog system is gone in favor of the traditional three-click mechanic. Notice the new meter at the bottom of the screen.

Pre-play adjustments like audibles and hot routes are now all mapped on the d-pad, which is now dubbed the strategy pad. You'll also get audio advice from your offensive coordinator when you choose the GameFlow play. You can hear this in action in the developer diary video below.
