Left 4 Dead 2 Add-On Arrives Thursday, Adds Weekly "Mutations"

by Phil Kollar on Apr 20, 2010 at 12:45 PM

We've been itching to play the first Left 4 Dead 2 add-on, "The Passing," for quite a while now, but Valve only just today announced the release date...and it's this week (April 22nd). In addition to the release date, Valve unleashed some info about a deliciously deadly new feature that we had not yet heard of: mutations.

In addition to new zombie types, new melee weapons, and a new set of levels, The Passing will introduce "Mutations" to Left 4 Dead 2. These week-long special events will allow players to try out new and unique modes, such as Realism Versus mode -- a mix of the two game modes already available in L4D2 -- or Chainsaw Massacre mode, where players are given chainsaws with unlimited gasoline.

Mutations will work on every campaign of Left 4 Dead 2, but they'll only be accessible to players that have purchased The Passing. Valve has promised a rotation of over 20 different varieties of Mutations.

Want to experience Mutations and the death of one of Left 4 Dead's original survivors for yourself? You can download The Passing on Thursday for 560 Microsoft Points ($7.00) on Xbox 360 or absolutely free on the PC.
