Ubi Goes Green With New Packaging, Omits Manuals

by Dan Ryckert on Apr 19, 2010 at 07:42 AM

Ubisoft announced today that they're completely doing away with paper manuals in an effort to be more "eco-friendly." Instead, each game will offer in-game digital versions of the manual, starting with Shaun White Skateboarding this holiday season.

“Ubisoft is often recognized for making great games, but it’s a special privilege to be the industry leader at saving trees,” said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America. “Eco-friendly initiatives are important to the global community and introducing in-game digital manuals on Xbox 360 and PS3 is just the latest example of Ubisoft’s ongoing commitment to being a more environmentally conscious company.”

How do you see this? Is this a genuine effort to be more environmentally-friendly, or do you think Ubisoft just saw an opportunity to cut down on production costs under the guise of being more "green"?
