Street Fighter Producer Wants To Fight Fat?

by Jeff Cork on Apr 15, 2010 at 06:50 AM

What if you could burn calories and lose weight while fighting foes in your living room? Not real people, mind you. That might get messy. How about playing a Street Fighter game with a health-conscious twist? Does that strike you as unbelievably insane? Would you believe that it’s an idea that Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono has been chewing on?

Speaking to Videogamer.com, Ono says that while he has been interested in motion controls for games, he doesn’t think that they’re necessarily a good fit with the existing Street Fighter formula. “It does broaden the appeal to casual users simply because of the instinctive controls, but it just doesn't quite fit an intricately balanced game such as Street Fighter."

"Now, there is a possibility of doing something called Street Fighter Fit, or Street Fighter Exercise, that is more suited for motion-sensing games,” Ono added, “but that would obviously be a slightly different-themed game."

That “slightly” is perhaps a bit of an understatement. While the idea of sweating along with Rufus has a bizarre sort of appeal (don’t judge), it’s foolish to assume that such a game is currently in development. Who knows, though? Perhaps we’ll hear something crazy from Captivate, Capcom’s press event that is currently taking place in Hawaii. We’ll keep you posted.
