UPDATE: Splinter Cell: Conviction Freezing On Xbox 360s

by Andrew Reiner on Apr 13, 2010 at 10:44 AM

UPDATE: This just in from Ubisoft: "The issue has been resolved. You should now be able to play without further problems."

To clarify, the title update is no longer cancerous to the game. Feel free to download the update without worry. Hats off to Microsoft and Ubisoft for patching the problem so quickly!

ORIGINAL STORY: Sam Fisher is an old fart. He has gray hair, he wears Cosby-like sweaters, and apparently he can't complete two levels of game without first taking a break -- a game crashing breaking. For those of you who ran out to purchase a copy of Splinter Cell: Conviction on Xbox 360 today, your stealthy exploits may come to an unexpected halt, as the game is freezing up.

The problem isn't with the game itself, but rather the title update. If you plan on playing the game today, don't install the update. If you already have, there is a workaround that will allow you to continue on without running into a freeze. Simply clear the system's cache then refuse to accept the update when Conviction is booted up again. To do this, head to the Xbox 360's dashboard, select System Settings, then enter into the Memory menu. Choose your hard drive then press "Y" for device options. Clear the cache, and you are good to go.
