DICE’s Gordon Van Dyke Leaves Battlefield For Visceral Games

by Matt Helgeson on Apr 07, 2010 at 11:04 AM

In his Twitter feed, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 producer Gordon Van Dyke revealed that he was leaving the Swedish development house DICE for a new position at EA’s Visceral Games studio.

On April 1st, he tweeted “I know, April Fools, but yes, I have left DICE. I’m still in EA though & moving back to the Bay Area to be closer to family for a few years.”

Later tweets confirmed the move; Van Dyke also denied rumors that the move signified that Visceral was working on a Battlefield project.

Visceral Games is a wholly owned internal EA development studio, formerly known as EA Redwood Shores. Following the success of its sci-fi survival horror title Dead Space, the studio was renamed Visceral and tasked with developing big budget, adult-themed action titles. However, soon after the name change, Visceral GM Glen Schofield and COO Michael Condrey left the Visceral to start Activision’s new Bay Area studio, Sledgehammer Games (currently working on an unnamed Call of Duty product).

Since the defection of Schofield and Condrey, Visceral has released Dead Space: Extraction and Dante’s Inferno. The company has two confirmed projects in development – Dead Space 2 and The Ripper, a downloadable game based on the famous murderer Jack the Ripper.

It is unknown whether Van Dyke is working on one of those titles or another, yet unannounced project.
