Skate 3 Demo Drops In Next Week

by Matthew Kato on Apr 06, 2010 at 06:29 AM

In advance of Skate 3's May 11 release, Electronic Arts and developer Black Box are releasing an extensive demo of the game for Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network on April 15. The demo not only lets you get your hands on the game almost a full month before it comes out, but also shows off some of this year's features that will help newcomers (and veterans alike) improve their skills and sessions.

The game introduces a new city to the franchise: Port Carverton, and the demo drops you into the city's initial area – the University District. This is a great place for anyone to start, as its plazas are wide, curbs low, and rails juicy. Whether this is your first time playing the series or not, you'll appreciate how the University's easy setup makes things fun.

The demo also features:

  • Single- and multiplayer challenges such as Domination (a new mode where teams of skaters try to claim the most planters, rails, etc. in a given spot for their team by scoring the most points on them.), Own the Lot, and Hall of Meat.
  • Skate.School with Coach Frank (as played by My Name Is Earl star Jason Lee), where the mustachioed coach will show you everything you need to know to become a skating legend. Always listen to Coach Frank. Always.
  • Skate 3's new Object Dropper. The demo introduces this new create-a-spot feature that lets you insert 24 objects (like rails, benches, signs, ramps, etc.) in the world at anytime. This means you no longer have to find and drag an object across the environment just to skate it. The final version of the Object Dropper gives you dozens and dozens of objects at your disposal.
  • Replay editor and access to Skate.Reel

Of course, the final game will offer much more, but this is a great opportunity to hone your skills before the game hits on May 11.
