Rockstar is no stranger to releasing blockbuster hits, and the powerhouse developer is hoping Red Dead Redemption is no exception. In addition to calling the upcoming spaghetti western the company’s “most ambitious game to date,” Rockstar General Manager, Neil Stephen, has revealed the company will support the game with a massive promotion campaign, which includes ads on the big screen.

“For the first time as a company, we will be running an on-screen cinema advertising campaign. We think the cinematic nature of the game makes it a perfect fit for cinema…” Stephen told MCV, a UK-based game site. Stephen also stated that Rockstar will be spending more of its TV budget on pre-launch ads, in order to “ensure Red Dead Redemption is established as a massive triple-A title,” and that the company has “very high expectations for what we think is our next blockbuster gaming franchise."

Normally I’m not a fan of video game ads playing before movies, but so far Red Dead’s documentary-style gameplay videos have been excellent. And even though it’s exactly what you would expect a representative to say, as a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series, it’s hard not to get a little excited when Rockstar calls Red Dead its most ambitious game to date. Who else is ready for some western-style gunslinging?
