EA Launches Five New iPad Games

by Tim Turi on Apr 02, 2010 at 06:35 AM

Are you among the dedicated Apple fans planning to pick up a tablet from the future? If so, Electronic Arts is pleased to announce that EA Mobile is releasing five titles for the iPad today.

Here are the big titles awaiting your purchase:

Tetris: Pazhitnov’s 25 year-old classic puzzler is getting another iteration. Players can manipulate the falling, multi-shaped blocks with a virtual d-pad. The game also features “all-new, high resolution graphics,” which is apparently something that is now important to Tetris.

Need for Speed Shift: Mobile racing enthusiasts can enjoy driving 28 cars across 18 courses in this multiplayer-enabled title. Players also have a visual accelerator, brake pedal, and manual shifting to heighten control of their vehicle.

Mirror’s Edge: Faith is a courier, so of course she was destined to be on the go with the iPad. In this portable version of EA’s parkour-based FPS, you can engage in splitscreen multiplayer across 14 levels. Expect all the wall-runs, slides, and enemy evasion that made the original unique.

Command & Concquer Red Alert: This title interests me the most. Touch-enabled screens are an RTS player's Holy Grail. EA hopes to break down the mouse and keyboard wall by delivering intuitive multi-touch controls. Using your digits to select units, adjust camera zoom, and issue commands sounds awesome. Of course, you can challenge friends to one-on-one matches via wi-fi or Bluetooth and completely school chumps playing the iPhone version.

Scrabble: This one’s a no-brainer. Pretty much everyone I know plays this on Facebook, so why not offer it on the next big thing? This version of Scrabble not only facilitates the established Facebook community, but it also offers a new Party Play mode. With it, you can pass the iPad amongst friends and take turns flicking words onto the game board. For the vocabulary-challenged, there’s even a mode that tells you the best word for your available letters.
