New Trailer Shows Spider-Man Like You’ve Never Seen Him Before

by Ben Reeves on Mar 31, 2010 at 12:31 PM

There was a time when if you wanted to play a good superhero game you reached for the box with Spider-Man on the cover. That is no longer the case. That doesn’t mean Activision is giving up on the license. This year the publishing giant plans on releasing Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions: a game that will show Spider-Man in a much darker light.

Some gamers might already be familiar with Spider-Man Noir, a comic book re-envisioning of Spider-Man as though he had existed during the depression-era 1930s. Spider-Man Noir is just one of four different worlds players will get to explore in Shattered Dimensions. The mainstream Amazing universe is another one, but Activision is saving the other two universes for a later date.

Ditching the open-world focus, Shattered Dimensions will be a more linear action-focused title. Each world will reportedly feature its own set of gameplay mechanics, like the stealth focus in Noir. So far the only villains we’ve seen are Kraven the Hunter and a Noir-ified Hammerhead, but we're holding out hope that more of Spidey's more impressive enemies will make appearances.

Activision has said that the worlds in Shattered Dimensions will ones that have already been explored in the comics.  What do you think they could be? Spider-Man 1602? That fat Spider-Man from Marvel’s Earth X? Maybe even Spider-Ham?

Rumor has it we’ll see Shattered Dimensions later this fall. For now, check out some of the game’s screens and the first trailer, seen below.
