RPGs that end when the credits roll are so 2009. Thanks to DLC and interconnected sequels like Mass Effect 2, players can have their poor decisions haunt them long after their initial game purchase comes to an end. And according to Alpha Protocol producer, Tim Ernst, Obsidian's new spy RPG will continue the trend.

Speaking with Destructoid, Ernst said that, "Any sequel will definitely play into how you played [the original] Alpha Protocol..." He went on to state that while the team is planning for the future, the first game "...doesn't have 'wait for the sequel' written in it."

But when it comes to the sequel, the biggest decision players will make is whether or not to buy the first game. When we talked to another Alpha Protocol producer, Chris Parker, he revealed that the future of the franchise depends on the reception of the first game: "The direction the series takes will be determined by its publisher, Sega. Obsidian Entertainment has expressed interest in both a sequel and DLC and has submitted ideas and proposals for both. At this time the most important thing is that Alpha Protocol launches well and is well received by our fans."

So, will Alpha Protocol be well received by fans? Check out this month's issue for our hands-on impressions of how the game is shaping up.
