Final Fantasy XIV Closed Beta Incoming

Square Enix announced at this year's VanaFest (a company-run fan festival for Final Fantasy XI players) that the first wave of closed beta action for Final Fantasy XIV will begin on March 11. This initial phase of the beta test includes just a few players.

It's good to know that FF XIV is moving along on schedule (or as on schedule as any Final Fantasy project ever is). Closed beta, even if it's kept behind the veil of a non-disclosure agreement, generally means that the design is close to finalized and it's time to start polishing up the game for release.

With any luck, Square Enix has learned some things about MMO design in the last few years and will do more than remake EverQuest with anime graphics this time around. Burn!
