THQ Restructuring Shakes Up Juice

by Meagan Marie on Feb 04, 2010 at 07:29 AM

THQ is making some significant corporate changes, the most visible being a rebranding of one UK and US studio. As part of plan to augment their digital expansion strategy, Juice Games, based out of Warrington in the UK, will now be called THQ Digital Warrington. Back stateside the studio known as Rainbow will be rebranded as THQ Digital Phoenix.

Technology out of Warrington is cited as spearheading the digital push, which will aim to release existing franchises and new properties on digital outlets like PSN, XBLA, and the iPhone.

“Consumers are increasingly looking for deeper engagement with their favorite entertainment experiences,” explained Danny Bilson, EVP of THQ Core Games. “They also want to enjoy games and entertainment via convenient social and portable platforms that suit their lifestyle. We plan to address these needs through a rich offering of content distributed across digital platforms, based both on all of our major core brands as well as new intellectual properties.”

Diversifying has its downside, as Develop-Online broke that THQ will lose 60 jobs between the studios as part of the restructuring.

A recent survey by entertainment analyst group M2 revealed that 11,500 game industry jobs have been lost since late 2008. This week alone, Codemasters confirmed several layoffs, and Take-Two is rumored to be on the chopping block thanks to internal restructuring.
