Project Needlemouse Concept Art Revealed, Music Sampled

by Tim Turi on Feb 03, 2010 at 05:08 AM

Time continues to tick away as the announcement of Project Needlemouse’s true name draws near. Today we’ve got two pieces of very nostalgic concept art to chew on, and also a sneak peek at Project Needlemouse’s music. Sega appears to be scrubbing away the last sordid 16 years of the hedgehog’s life to restore his former glory. Will it work?

Find the concept art below. First we have one of the iconic background sunflowers from the original Sonic's Green Hill Zone. There’s also one of the power-up hiding palm trees from the same level. I never thought I’d be so happy to see two pieces of flora revealed for a video game.

Next up is a snippet from the game’s music. If you’re afraid of the cheesy power ballad intros from the Dreamcast games, rest easy. This is pure Genesis-era beauty in audio form. I can’t wait to hear more!

Perhaps the most exciting news is that Sega is announcing Project Needlemouse’s true identity this Thursday. A “bonus” is also promised to all the diehard Sonic fans clawing their eyes out in anticipation. Could this return of Sonic truly be the game that we never thought would be made?
