Valve’s Steam Is On Fire With Over 25 Million Users

by Ben Reeves on Jan 29, 2010 at 10:38 AM

Half-Life and Left 4 Dead developer Valve announce today that its online gaming delivery service, Steam, is doing well – very well indeed. According to their internal reports Steam now serves over 25 Million users. In 2009 the number of accounts the service provided went up 25% over 2008’s numbers. Of the 25 million Steam users, 10 million of them have active profiles in the Steam community.

In addition to all the new users Steam has been attracting, this last December saw more than 2.5 million users concurrently using the service, record breaking numbers for Valve. Game sales saw a spike of more than 205%, which isn’t so surprising as Steam now offers more than 1,000 game for download.

This is good news for Valve and Steam, which hits its six-year anniversary this March. What do you guys think of the service? How many of you use Steam? Do you think it’s the future of game distribution?
