Free-To-Play FIFA Online

by Matthew Kato on Jan 29, 2010 at 05:30 AM

Just days after announcing its FIFA World Cup video game, EA Sports is not only giving you more footie with the newly announced FIFA Online, but it's asking fans to significantly shape the game through its beta process.

FIFA Online is a free, browser-based title playable on most computers with a broadband connection. The game features a mouse-only control system, although many details of the game (which will start its open beta this June) are still to be determined. In fact, EA is using a closed beta period in Europe starting February 3rd to vet features for the title. Overall, the game features 30 licensed leagues, 500 clubs, and 15,000 players, and it will offer tournament play (including the World Cup), League Mode, and the ability to build your own dream team as you play. Other features and aspects of FIFA Online will be determined by the fans' feedback in the closed beta.

“Fans will determine the features that matter most," says FIFA Online's executive producer, Kaz Makita, "and at the end of this process, our goal is to deliver a game for fans looking for a quick soccer fix at home or at work.”

Do you think that a browser-based title like this can carry the FIFA gameplay we've gotten used to?

FIFA Online will offer equipment upgrades via play or microtransations.
