UPDATE: Gran Turismo 5 Delayed In Japan

by Matthew Kato on Jan 13, 2010 at 05:10 AM

UPDATE: We just talked to a Sony Computer Entertainment of America spokesperson, and they confirmed that the Japanese delay is indefinite, and that there is no official U.S. release date yet.

ORIGINAL STORY: Sony has delayed Gran Turismo 5 in Japan from its March launch date to an undisclosed future date due to what the company calls production issues.

While this release setback only applies to Japan, one can't but help worry that this delay will affect that game's U.S. release, for which there has yet to be a formal date announced.

I don't want to sound paranoid (too late), but if these production issues also pushed back the U.S. release would we even know about it? Or would Sony say that it's not a delay if the game never had a firm U.S. date to begin with? Then again, what do I know about production lines, etc.? Maybe this is truly isolated to Japan. Either way, I would be shocked if this pushed GT 5 out of 2010. At worst I imagine it makes a summer release a fall or holiday one.
