By July you’ll probably have finished your sixth playthough of Mass Effect 2, but that doesn’t mean your exploration through BioWare’s sci-fi universe has to end. Mark your calendars for July 27, because that’s when publisher Del Ray releases the third book in the Mass Effect series entitled Mass Effect: Retribution.

Penned by returning author and BioWare writer Drew Karpyshyn Retribution continues the story of terrible father/drug addict Paul Grayson, and Martin Sheen sound alike the Illusive Man. The Mass Effect website has this to say about the upcoming novel, “Humanity has explored the very farthest reaches of the universe, only to discover the ruthless Reapers, a race bent on extinguishing all organic life. One man is bent on discovering the Reapers' secrets, the mysterious Illusive Man, the leader of a pro-human, black ops group, Cerberus. And he's devised the perfect plan: implant a human subject with Reaper technology in order to study the enemy.”

We’ve always thought the Mass Effect novels were great for satisfying our hunger for the franchise between games, and Retribution should prove to be a fun read. Anyone else out there read the books? What did you think?
