Job Cuts At Warner Bros. Studios

by Joe Juba on Jan 12, 2010 at 11:08 AM

Today Warner Brothers confirmed that an unspecified number of employees at Monolith Productions, Snowblind Studios, and Surreal Software have been laid off.

According to a statement made to Gamasutra, the job cuts at Warner's three studios are not indicators of the developers being shut down. In fact, the publisher plans to see the studios grow again in the future:

"We are committed to growing Warner Bros. in the game space and will be retaining robust teams in our Seattle studios. We have been moving towards sharing certain resources across the studios and have also been reallocating resources to align talent with our development needs. Unfortunately, we had a few too many resources in certain functions and some positions were eliminated in this process. Our plan is to continually review staffing needs and as future projects evolve we would expect to see the studios grow."

No matter how Warner Bros. explains the layoffs, it is always sad to see cuts at talented studios. Monolith is best known for its work on the FEAR series, Surreal made The Suffering, and Snowblind released the manic Death Tank on Xbox Live Arcade. We hope that Warner Bros. expectation to see these studios bounce back isn't just a hollow hope, and wish for the best for those affected by the layoffs.
