Resident Evil: Afterlife Movie Has Another Release Date

by Ben Reeves on Jan 11, 2010 at 08:50 AM

We love Resident Evil, but its theatrical releases have only made us cry (not out of fear). It looks like Milla Jovovich, and her special brand of expression-free acting, are going to take another shot at the big screen later this year with Resident Evil: Afterlife.

The movie, being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (AVP: Alien vs. Predator, Event Horizon), picks up where the last film left off, with Alice (Jovovich) wandering the country looking for survivors and eventually stumbling across a few locked inside an L.A. prison. Afterlife will also be the film debut for series mainstay Chris Redfield.

Though the film was originally set for a release in late September, it was pushed back to January of 2011 so that the post-production team could touch up the film’s 3D effects. However, it sounds like the 3D detailing won’t take as long as planned. Shocktillyoudrop.com recently reported that the movie’s official release just got moved up to September 10th of this year, and it looks like this time it’s permanent.

The recent move could either mean that the movie team is doing such a bang up job on the film that they don’t need the extra time, or that the production company doesn’t expect much from the film and is trying to rush it out the door. Which do you think it is? Does anyone still care about the Resident Evil movie franchise at this point?
