DLC Purchased By Only 15 Percent Of Gamers

These days it seems like a game can’t even hit the shelves before downloadable content is announced. With such an emphasis being placed on expanding games’ longevity, it’s easy assume that everybody knows about the recent push for digital content. A recent study reveals surprising facts about gamers’ awareness of DLC availability.

According to media consulting firm Frank N. Magid Associates out of 800 gamers only 15 percent were aware of and have purchased additional downloadable content.  A total of 41 percent said they knew DLC existed, but have not bought any. The remaining 43 percent said they didn’t even know what DLC was.

The firm’s president, Mike Vorhaus, told IGN those who claimed to have not heard of DLC were generally people playing PS2s and Wiis. These consoles tend not to push DLC heavily.

The numbers are a little surprising. With developers striving to provide so much additional content, you’d think there would be more of a dedicated base of DLC purchasers.

What’s the last bit of DLC you purchased?
