Microsoft's Greenberg Sheds Light On Game Room

by Nick Ahrens on Jan 07, 2010 at 11:32 AM

When information about Microsoft's Game Room leaked, and even after the official announcement last night, many gamers and bloggers described it as an Xbox 360 version of PlayStation's Home. After seeing it in action ourselves and talking to director of product management Aaron Greenberg it became apparent that Game Room is really just about the arcade games, not a large scale social experience.

"It's pretty uniquely different than what Sony was doing," he said. "I think they were following in the footsteps of Second Life. We're thinking 'Hey, I remember when I was in the '80s and my friends would come over and we'd play Intellivision or play arcade games in the arcade.' I'm no longer in high school and we don't all live in the same place, but we can still share those experiences. So the nostalgic appeal of it I think is pretty cool."

Game Room is slated to to hit the Xbox 360 via download this spring. Click here to check out some of the launch titles.
