Weekend Warrior 12/18/09

by Annette Gonzalez on Dec 18, 2009 at 01:00 PM

The holidays are almost here which means a hefty break for us! Check out what we'll be up to during our last weekend before holidays and family functions suck up our time, then head over to the comments section and let us know your weekend plans.

Reiner: I'm only a few hours into Saboteur, but it's already looking like my sleeper hit of the year. I'm loving this game! It has a great narrative, and Sean is a hero I can get behind. Sure, the hand-to-hand combat sucks, and the vehicle physics are a bit off, but the rest of the game is solid so far. If you can picture Mafia meets Infamous, you'll have a good idea of what to expect from this game. So, long story short, I'm playing that this weekend.

Bertz: This is the weekend when I hone my abysmal Modern Warfare multiplayer skills. Despite the broken matchmaking that keeps throwing you in Free-For-All when you signed up for Warzone, the ridiculously overpowered Akimbo Shotgun and commando perk running rampant through matches, and the poorly balanced splash damage on grenades, I'm going in for another tour of duty. Why? My kill-death ratio is laughable right now, and as a proud FPS aficionado that will not stand.

Kato: I just started Dragon Age: Origins (console version), so I'm going to embark on that voyage. You know, the thing I always run into with RPGs is that I initially worry I'm going to pick the one skill tree that isn't worth a ***. In fact, I've already done that with my mage in Dragon Age, and Joe suggested I start over and choose a different skill, so I'm already behind the eight ball on that front. The other is that I spend a lot of time just running around checking every bookshelf and starting every conversation because I'm worried I'm going to be missing something. I guess if I'm going to get anyware in Dragon Age this weekend, I'm going to have to curb some of that neurotic behavior.

Jeff C: I’m going to give Dragon Age one more shot. I think one of the problems is that I’m playing the console version. Also, I have a low tolerance for fantasy clichés and I’ve already seen the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Maybe it gets better once I power through the boring parts. We’ll see. I’ll probably finish up Darksiders tonight, and then I don’t know what else I’ll do. Maybe I’ll spend some time with my dumb family.

Meagan: This weekend I hope to polish off the brain-collecting mission in Borderland's Dr. Ned DLC and finally hit that level 50 mark. Other than that, it's Dragon Age: Origins and The Saboteur for me. Somewhere in there I need to find time to finish Christmas shopping, see Avatar, and clean my house for inevitable holiday company. So much to do, so little time.

Sean: Well, I have to admit that I will at some point see Avatar in 3D. I don't know if it'll live up to the hype, but I guess we'll see. I will also be traveling most of the weekend, so it will be a lot of portable gaming for me. Thanks to the Vault, that means discovering games like Jeanne D'Arc, Midnight Club, Crisis Core, and finishing up the last bit of Final Fantasy Tactics. I may also smoke a cigar and play poker at some point, neither of which I can ever recommend anyone doing...

Dan: This weekend I'm preparing for the long drive back to Kansas City. Considering that I'll be home for two weeks, that means packing up the 360 and bringing my gaming backlog along for the ride. Left 4 Dead 2, Assassin's Creed II, The Saboteur, Dragon Age, and more will all receive some serious attention over my break. Between that, my luggage, and a bunch of gifts, I'm probably going to have a pretty packed car as I drive through Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri and finally Kansas.

Annette: My best friend from Chicago is in for the weekend so we'll probably spend most of our time exploring Minneapolis. I also plan on turning her into a gamer. I have four days to do it, but I have my work cut out for me. She could hardly navigate the 360 dashboard this morning. Wish me luck.

Tim: I'm stuck in Silent Hill 3. I just used a car jack to open up an elevator, but I need a rope or something to get down. All I have in my inventory is a screwdriver. On the bright side, I found a katana in an office building. Besides aimlessly wandering around the dregs of Silent Hill, I'll likely be shooting angels with shoe-heels and using my hair to masticate gigantic foes in Bayonetta. Maybe I'll throw in some DJ Hero and House of the Dead: Overkill. Variety is the spice of life. Also, save time this weekend by skipping Avatar.

Jeff Akervik: You guessed it, more Borderlands. I'll hopefully be able to finish up the Zombie Island DLC this weekend and move on to some other PS3 titles I have waiting in the wings, namely Assassin's Creed II and The Orange Box. I'll also be waiting on some classic GBA games I've ordered for my newly acquired Zelda-themed DS. Love it.
