Borderlands Blows Past 2 Million Sales
Once speculated to be a sleeper hit of 2009, Borderlands has proven to be more successful than anyone anticipated. In a call with G4, Take-Two, the game's publisher, announced the game has sold more than two million copies worldwide, labeling it “a key franchise” for the company. Considering the company's other key franchises include names like Bioshock and Grand Theft Auto, that's a pretty flattering statement.
A while back when I talked to Nick Wilson (the Borderlands artist responsible for the Metroid-esque T.K.'s Wave) he said that the whole Gearbox team was eager to make a sequel, if the game proves successful enough to warrant one. Hopefully selling 2 million copies – plus sales of current and future DLC – is enough of a motivator to green light a future project.
Speaking of DLC, be sure to come back tomorrow for our huge preview of the upcoming Borderlands add-on, Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot!
