3 Million Players Have Enlisted With Battlefield Heroes

by Jeff Cork on Dec 16, 2009 at 02:51 AM

Here's some news that will make some military recruiters jealous: EA today announced that Battlefield Heroes has attracted 3 million registered users since its June launch. In honor of the event, the free-to-play online shooter is getting a new map, Sunset Showdown. The new map features a central control point, vehicles and a church that's just begging for a few snipers to move in. The game follows an advertising and in-game item sales model, which allows players to hop into the action without having to spend any money. The game did recently undergo a controversial pricing shift, but that doesn't seem to have dampened the team's enthusiasm.

“Battlefield Heroes continues to grow fast with well over 50,000 new players joining us every week. Our players have already logged in over 1,300 years worth of game time and nearly 300million kills over 150million five-minute game rounds,” said Ben Cousins, general manager of the Battlefield Heroes team. “The vast majority of our players play for free, but if they want to customize their character or enhance their game with weapon upgrades or widgets then there is a cool item for them in our store.”
