Atari CEO Steps Down, Replacement Announced
Atari has announced yet another CEO change, with David Gardner stepping down and being replaced by Jeff Lapin, the company’s former COO. Gardner, who was CEO for less than a year, will remain on the board of directors. His swift departure mirrors that of his predecessor, Patrick Leleu, who acted as CEO for only nine months. This makes Lapin Atari’s fourth CEO in the last three years.
Such instability may be seen as a sign of weakness – especially after the company was bought outright by Infogrames in 2008. But it may also point to the company’s shift towards online gaming, which included the acquisition of Cryptic Studios, makers of the MMOs Champions Online and Star Trek Online.
