The Who Returning To Rock Band?

by Jeff Cork on Oct 27, 2009 at 04:18 AM

When Harmonix announced Rock Band a few years ago, The Who was a huge part of the reveal. The band’s “Who’s Next” was slated to be the first full-length album available in the game as DLC. Alas, not all of the master tapes were located, so fans had to settle with a downloadable bundle featuring some of the band’s greatest hits. (A live version of “Magic Bus” was available by itself later.)

Now, singer Roger Daltrey is hinting at more Rock Band content from the group. He dropped the news in an interview with Masslive.com. Here’s the exchange:

Q:The Beatles are the latest band to be featured in a video game, "The Beatles: Rock Band."

A:The game, yeah, yeah, they're going to be doing a Who one next year. There is one planned. (The idea) is fabulous. Anything that gets non-musical people interested in music is wonderful. In my opinion, music is our last true great freedom. They can burn our books, they can burn our paintings, but they can't stop us singing and making music.

Freedom! More than likely all this means is that some kind of additional DLC (or perhaps a retail add-on, similar to the track packs) is on the way. It would be great to get a The Who-only game (particularly if you’re some kind of The Who superfan), but it doesn’t make much sense either from a creative standpoint or a marketing one.
