First Screens From Namco Bandai's Gravity-Fueled "Inversion"

by Jeff Cork on Oct 20, 2009 at 06:50 AM

Namco Bandai has announced that it will be publishing Saber Interactive's latest game, Inversion. The game takes place in the near future, when a mysterious force called the Lutadore attacks with advanced gravity-controlling weapons. The subsequent fallout upends the lives of Davis Russel, a police officer with a short temper, and Leo Delgado, Russel's neighbor. As they work together to find Davis' missing child, they run into pockets of zero gravity and other anomalies. Players assume the role of one of the characters, and battle back with one of the Lutadore's own weapons. The Grappler allows players to manipulate gravity, moving large objects out of the way, forcing enemies out of cover and solving puzzles along the way.

“Working with Namco Bandai Games on a project of this caliber is a complete thrill,” said Matthew Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive. “We are doing things in Inversion that most people didn’t think possible on the current generation of consoles.” The game is being developed with Havok Destruction technology, which could mean loads of destructible environments. What good is a gravity gun if you can't flex its power, anyway?

Saber's last game, TimeShift, was full of cool concepts but a little short on gameplay. Here's hoping that Inversion lives up to its potential.
