What You Didn't Know About Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes

Game development often lasts for years. And in that stretch of time, studios have their fair share of ups and downs. From humorous game bugs to stress-relieving antics, Game Informer peers behind the curtain of game development. In our fifth Tidbits column, Krome Studios shares the pants wetting stories behind the development of Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes.

  • 2 kids peed their pants while playing Republic Heroes at Comic Con.


  • Commander Ponds' number CC-6454 was named after the birth date of one of the Producer's fathers in his memory.


  • Every morning Krome would sign off their meetings by screaming “Use the Force!!” as loud as possible while making a Force strangle motion with their hands.


  • The word “Clone” is said 195 times - across all languages (only 70 in English)

  • The word “Jedi” is said 1,346 times - across all languages (only 269 in English).


  • The Lead Programmer in Brisbane once worked through the night in his pajamas.


  • On ‘submission’ day Krome collectively sent through 16 different builds (1 for each platform, region, language...).


  • Approximately 2,000 gigabytes worth of data has transferred across the ‘internets’ between Australia and the US during the development of Republic Heroes.


  • "Bullbars" (or "Roo Bars" if you're in Australia) were designed and added to the AT-TE's in order to allow for better platforming in the game.


  • A worldwide search was undertaken to locate a specific language keyboard to clear a single bug!


  • There was only one Hawaiian shirt day during the production of Republic Heroes… but it was awesome!


  • A Brisbane animator paid homage to The Who’s Pete Townsend in arriving at the MagnaGuard Dance animation.


  • A level designer on the Wii team consumed over 36 cans of Wasabi Peas during the production.


  • Each Jedi Character on the Wii has over 250 animations.


  • On average, AA batteries for controllers were re-charged twice every day, and over 200 were unusable by the end of the project.

The Krome Adelaide team broke the coffee machine. Twice.


  • Collectively, the Adelaide team spent 330 hours watching Clone Wars season one episodes.


  • The planet Behpour was relocated to the Naboo system in order to fit better with the story.


  • Only 1 person had to be quarantined due to the Swine Flu.


  • 13 babies were born during the Production of Republic Heroes. (10 Aussies, 3 Americans).


  • One Producer's obsession with Admiral Ackbar resulted in a mask being created for the shop, and the name for one of the levels in the game.
