Thousands Of Video Games Stolen By Mailman

by Tim Turi on Oct 16, 2009 at 12:17 PM

Philadelphia GameFly subscribers can rest easy tonight, thanks to the arrest of Reginald Johnson, a mail-processing clerk charged with stealing 2,200 video games. As philly.com reports, complaints from subscribers of the video game mailing surface began surfacing in late 2007. A surveillance operation using bogus mailings helped finger Johnson, who attempted to evade Federal agents, leaving behind a duffel bag containing 81 GameFly games. Agents found another 79 games and video game peripherals in his abandoned SUV.

Reginald has admitted to the ongoing thefts, and will likely receive 12 to 18 months in prison when he is sentenced January 13th. Which is kind of surprising – didn’t he know he could just blame the video games he was stealing? I mean, at least one of those 2,200 games had to be a Grand Theft Auto, and I’m sure at least a couple of politicians would have taken up a soapbox in his defense. Oh well, at least our games are safe now!
