Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Voice Cast Revealed

by Joe Juba on Oct 16, 2009 at 10:55 AM

The big news coming out of the latest Report from Kojima Productions (which you can download and listen to here) is the unveiling of the voice cast for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Metal Gear fans are going to want to listen to the whole show for a little extra detail and insight, but here’s the list for those who are only interested in the facts. Other roles you may recognize the actor from (from Metal Gear and otherwise) are listed next to the name.

Naked Snake, Big Boss: David Hayter
Huey - Christopher Randolph (Otacon in MGS 1, 2, and 4)
Master Miller: Robin Atkin Downes (Travis Touchdown in No More Heroes)
Paz: Tara Strong (Ursula and Elisa in MGS: Portable Ops, Rikku in Final Fantasy)
Strangelove: Vanessa Marshall (Eva in MGS: Portable Ops, Olga in MGS 2)
Galvez: Steve Blum (Gene in MGS: Portable Ops, Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop)
Cecile: Catherine Taber (Penelo in Final Fantasy XII)
Amanda: Grey DeLisle
Coldman: H. Richard Greene
Chico: Anthony Del Rio

The casting of David Hayter as Snake doesn’t usually come as a surprise, but we actually expected something different this time. Since this part of the series’ timeline focuses on Big Boss as his rise to power, we thought that the role of Snake would be handed off to Richard Doyle, who provides the voice for Big Boss at a later point in the series.

According to The Report’s host Sean Eyestone, Doyle was under consideration for the role, but it was ultimately decided that Hayter still represents the character best at this phase.

“They both pull of different aspects of the Big Boss character. Richard Doyle has that really commanding presence…You can tell he has the years behind him. You can tell that he’s speaking from experience. You can see him standing in front of this huge crowd and just commanding authority. And then David Hayter, he’s – of course – Snake, and he has that energy. It’s kind of like comparing a commander on the field and a general.”

The fact that a few of the other actors have had parts in previous Metal Gear titles isn’t necessarily significant in every case, but Christopher Randolph as Huey indicates that the character is probably related to Otacon, especially since they look practically identical. Vanessa Marshall, who played Eva in Portable Ops (but not in Snake Eater) could point to Strangelove’s true identity, but we won’t be sure until we get our hands on Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker next year.
