Dragon Age Journeys delves into 2D

by Joe Juba on Oct 16, 2009 at 04:10 AM

Just as anticipation for BioWare’s latest fantasy RPG is hitting fever pitch, the developer reveals Dragon Age Journeys, a 2D browser-based adventure set in the Dragon Age universe.

According to a blog post on BioWare’s site, Dragon Age Journeys is a single-player tactical RPG that will be separated into three chapters and played via Flash. The first entry is called The Deep Roads, and will introduce players to the dwarven city of Orzammar and the vast network of interconnected tunnels and ruined cities carved into the stone beneath it. How exactly the game will play is still a mystery, though it will use the character classes, talent trees, and interface from the core game.

While BioWare has been providing support for Dragon Age Journeys, the official developer is an Electronic Arts studio called EA 2D. While this is the developer’s first announced project, it sounds like gamers can expect to see similar projects in the future.  “At EA 2D it is our mission to create blockbusters for the browser,” writes EA 2D producer Ethan Levy. “Some will be original games created by our teams and some will be games within other EA franchises, such as Dragon Age Journeys.”

The announcement of Dragon Age Journeys is just the beginning; the introductory blog post is listed as “part 1 of 4,” and we’ll be sure to keep you posted on any updates and new info.
