Phoenix Rises From The Ashes

by Annette Gonzalez on Oct 15, 2009 at 07:19 AM

Phoenix: The Fall & Rise of Videogames (third edition), a history book on the industry, is now available after having been out of print for more than five years.

The book was originally published in 1994 by veteran game writer, Leonard Herman, and is considered the first comprehensive industry history book. The book covers the industry from the late ‘60s through the ‘90s boom and is a solid starting point for learning about the history of our favorite pastime.

Phoenix earned second place on our list of 10 best gaming books ever written in our June 2008 issue. Other books that made the list include Masters of Doom, Snow Crash, Confessions of the Game Doctor and High Score: The Illustrated History of Electronic Games. A fourth edition of Phoenix is in the works with no publication date set.
