Saving Private Ryan Screenwriter Takes On Raimi's World Of Warcraft

by Jeff Cork on Oct 13, 2009 at 03:43 AM

MTV's Movies Blog yesterday revealed that Robert Rodat will be taking on screenwriting duties for the upcoming World of Warcraft movie, which is being directed by Sam Raimi. Rodat wrote the screenplay for the Jeff Daniels film Fly Away Home, in which a father and daughter team up to direct a flock of wayward geese back to their migration lands with help from an ultralight aircraft. OK, he also wrote the screenplay for Saving Private Ryan.

In the interview with Raimi, the Spider-Man (and Evil Dead) director gave precious few details about the project. He did say that it would be focused on a small number of locations and storylines and focus on making sure that the film portrayed those elements as accurately as possible. That's good news for WoW fans, as well as gamers in general. All too often it seems as though games are licensed, only to see critical parts of what made those games great stripped away and abandoned. With any luck, this could be a movie that will not only please the rabid WoW fanbase, but attract people who might not have heard of Blizzard's insanely popular game.

Do such people exist?
