Ubisoft Buys European Racing Developer Nadeo

French publisher Ubisoft has acquired developer Nadeo, a company most famous for creating PC arcade-style racing franchise TrackMania. Ubi CEO Yves Guillermot touted Nadeo's pedigree, saying, "Through Nadeo, Ubisoft will gain an expert team, one of the best on-line technologies around as well as a flagship multiplayer game that enjoys an unrivalled reputation among a loyal and committed community."

TrackMania boasts impressive content creation tools, as well as an online framework that allows the community to easily rally around quality user-created tracks. Nadeo has supported the game's continuing online presence with generous free expansions and other additional content.

The racing franchise has never achieved huge popularity in the U.S. despite solid reviews, and a DS entry earlier this year marked its first appearance on a non-PC platform. No comment has yet been made about Ubisoft's plans for Nadeo moving forward.
